Ileco 3 has to pay tax liabilityThird district Board Member Licurgo Tirador has called on the provincial treasurer to collect unpaid real property tax from Iloilo Electric Cooperative ( Ileco 3) amounting to P1,058,504.58. In his privileged speech during last Tuesday's regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan , Tirador slighted at the failure of the provincial government to collect Ileco 3's tax liability that has stayed for many years. Tirador said Gov. Niel Tupas , Sr. should give attention to this considering that Ileco 3 covers most of the fifth congressional district where Tupas came from. “ Tupas has spearheaded the tax amnesty campaign, and I expect it ( Ileco 3) to be more supportive of his efforts for the good of the province. For many years, now, the provincial government has not been effective in enforcing remedies for tax delinquencies. That is probably the reason why Ileco 3 has ignored our demand for payment despite our tax amnesty program,” Tirador said. Tirador noted that Ileco 1 has obligated its tax obligation of P85 ,637.97 and Ileco 2 has paid P3,828,753.84 last December 31, 2004. He stressed that Provincial Treasurer Melba Sullivan should take steps to immediately collect the tax delinquency of Ileco 3. Tirador said , letting Ileco 3 escape of its tax liability is grossly unfair on the part of the small farmers who sacrificed their harvest last year just to pay their tax liabilities with the provincial government. |
