600 youngsters join painting contest

Almost 600 young aspiring artists participated in the first ever Dinagyang on the spot painting contest held at the Museo Iloilo on January 21, 2005 .

Eric delos Santos , one of organizers of the contest, said that he was grateful that many students have responded to the call of art. He added that based on the turn out there are many potential artists in Iloilo .

The painting contest has four categories. The participants were judged according to their category. Children ranging from ages three to six years old belong to Category 1. Category 2 is from seven to 12 years old while category 3 is composed of children ranging from ages 13-16 while the fourth category have participants from 17-22 years old.

The winners in the first category are: first place - Heiro Granja of Riverview Adventist Academy; second place - Fe Idyl Blanche Cabales of Balay-Balay Child Minding Center; UPV; third place - Luke Matthew Dijuan , of Montessori, Molo .

Category two : first place - Kimberly Sol Villanueva Iloilo Central Elementary School ; second place - Annie Rose Abogadi of J.L. Tiongo Memorial School ; third place -is Aurelia Ma. Cecilia Nava of Assumption Iloilo .

Category 3: first place - Koleen Thalia Jamias of Colegio De San Jose; second place - Regine Camille Garcia of Santa Maria Catholic School ; third place - and Karen Joy Chua of Iloilo National High School .

Category 4: first place - Everee Grace Tentativa of West Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST); second place - Jovin Militar of University of San Agustin ; third place - Crispin Mantiquilla of University of San Agustin .

A Karaoke unit was awarded to the school of first prizewinner of each category. Winners also received P4 ,000 for first, P3,000 second and P2,000 third for categories one and two. In third and fourth categories, the winners received, P5 ,000 for first, P4,000 for second and P3,000 for third placer.
