Phoenix Picks “Since I was a boy I saw your face in my dreams, I've been waiting for this day to see you…I was fated to protect you… for dreams and fate are tied together” a spiritually vigorous Indian man said these near-prophetic yet compassionate words to Bridget in the motion picture “Hellwolf”. All that she wanted was to have her sister back after she found out that her sister was bitten by a werewolf/wendigo infected boy and was destined to become one deadly creature. This Indian man deeply believed in his dreams as visions of the future and Bridget was fated to decide the fate of a ravaging plague that has killed and turned everyone into savage evil creatures. Reality concealed: But Bridget loved her sister dearly. “Soon not even your love will stop her!” the Indian man uttered with silent fear that deep inside love conquers even death and deception (even sisterhood). Reality check: We are sometimes like savage creatures, but most of the time we are blindly savage for we sometimes conceal our eyes to see the light and we prefer to hide in the veil of darkness, pretension, and wishful thinking. To be normal, our eyes must blink 25 times per minute. Thus, after every blink why won't we let the light come in and teach our heart to see what goes beyond our human sight… Celebrity Pick 101: Close encounter with Juday, Ryan Agoncillo, Bayani Agbayani, Danilo Barrios, Dingdong Dantes and Sen. Bong Revilla.
My last Dinagyang weekend escapade has never been this thrilling, exhausting, and exciting. I swear, I did not spend too much of my time merrymaking, burning my skin under the scourging heat of the sun and roaming around the city's crowded streets full of people enjoying the Dinagyang fever. I have seen the tribe's captivating and energetic performances but not like others who were so fanatically obsessed of memorizing everything about all the participating tribes or squeezing in the crowded spectators. However, what lifted my senses is my insatiable craving to catch stars and celebrities who visited Iloilo during the festival. My first encounter was with Sen. Bong Revilla who became the guest speaker of the joint induction of the JCI Tamasak of Barotac Nuevo and JCI Metro Iloilo Dinagyang last January 22 at Amigo Terrace Hotel. This sensational and courageous actor-turned-senator of the country left effective message of brotherhood and camaraderie to avert the rampant corruption during his speech. But I can't forget how he compared Ma'am JC Ruby as Sharon Cuneta look-alike, Dinagyang Jaycees sexy prexy Tina Gemora as Lucy Torres clone and Tamasak Prexy Loriza Deroy as Lani Mercado look-alike (hehe), we laughed outrageously by his thrilling comments that night. Few hours after our induction I met Starstuck host Dingdong Dantes at the hotel lobby with his friends. Of course I greeted him warmly, he was so generous and amiable enough to accommodate my queries about his career. He was even amused about my ability to illustrate Japanese and American animations. The next day, “Ati-ati” competition heated up but my illusion to meet Judy Ann Santos who paraded the city with her Krystala suit tempted me to find her. A friend of mine from ABS-CBN texted me that Juday's going to have her lunch at Breakthrough in Villa. Therefore, I arrived there earlier than 1 p.m. but to my surprise, I was able to have chat with another young actor, Danilo Barrios who played the lead role in the MMFF 2002 winning film entry “Yamashita Treasure”. Then, later I got excited when Juday, Ryan Agoncillo and Bayani Agbayani arrived at the restaurant with some screaming fans shouting “Krystala!” outside. Though looking tired and exhausted Juday was very accommodating. I love Juday ever since her “MaraClara” years to “Esperanza” soap opera wherein she showed great acting prowess. I love her movies too and her brief singing career. Her fame was once hailed like Nora Aunor, Juday they say is the new young superstar. Little kids outside the restaurant who watched Juday from a distance patiently waited for their super heroine “Krystala” to approach them or give them a hug. Anyway, I believe in these times of economic crises and social dilemmas it felt so comforting that kids look up to television superheroes like Juday as a symbol of optimism to ease the burden reflected within their innocent eyes. Anyway, I'm thankful for Bombette Marin for inviting me as one of the judges of “Sinadya sang mga banwa” last January 21, 2005 at the Provincial Capitol. Well, I have celebrated my birthday with inner peace of mind and simple happiness with friends who were with me in spirit in the evening of Dinagyang. I'm truly thankful to God above all for giving me a chance to prove my worth that a lame like me that they used to say can even become better than those who profess to be a homosuperior.
