Minority vs. majority at Prov'l Board
By Leny G. Gabo
After having been stripped of their committee chairmanships , the minority group in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is on the offensive against the majority.
Minority floor leader Board Member Bernardo Silla in a privileged speech lambasted that alleged “gruesome massacre” of the majority on their group.
Silla said it was obvious that the majority has planned to set off all committee chairmanships so that the minority could not handle any of it.
He cited that the majority even denied the 40 percent deal for the committee chairmanships that they have asked before the reorganization.
Silla assured that although they belong to the minority they will remain as watchdog and protector of the people's money.
Board Member Cecilia Capadosa , on the other hand, reacted on Silla's statements saying it was not the intention of the majority to strip off any committee chairmanship from the minority.
Capadosa said the situation calls for it since Board Member Lilia Gonzales resigned from her chairmanship in the Committee on Ways and Means.
Capadosa said, “ the resignation of Gonzales affected other chairmanships.”
She added that it was the minority who refused the offer of the majority for a two chairmanships in spite of their 40 percent deal.
Board Member Domingo Oso , another majority member, commented that it (committee reorganization) was the majority's privilege and nobody in the august body could question it.
Meanwhile, Board Member Niel Tupas Jr. challenged Silla for a debate regarding the issues presently hounding the provincial board. |
