The Governor's Wisdom
In one of the Bicol provinces where I worked, I rode in the jeep on one occasion with our provincial governor on the wheel, as we went to inspect his farm some 50 kilometers distance from the city. He was applying for a loan with our bank.
As we passed by a sari-sari store near the plaza in his hometown, someone waved at the governor and he was telling him something. The governor slowed down but did not stop. He just waved back and passed by as he answered , “ arreglado ! Just see me in the office tomorrow.”
I did not get what the man was trying to say to the governor even if I was seated next to him. So I curiously asked: “ Guv , what was that guy requesting you? I did not get it .”
“I did not get it too ,” he said. “But it is safer to say “ arreglado ” all the time. Anyway, I asked him to come to the office and I will know then exactly what he wants and can decide what to do about it by that time, isn't it?” |
