Congressional mockery

The first day of the congressional inquiry initiated by a bunch of jokers on the alleged anomalous New Iloilo Airport Development Project (NIADP) ended up a dud.

The bunch took center stage wishing an unusual event to take place that may forever change the course of Iloilo history. Each was dying to outshine each other.

A female member of the House (she signed up and insisted for her inclusion in the investigation), behaving like the famous Sherlock Holmes begun to cross examine a board member, as if she was pacifying a kid robbed of a lollipop by a playmate.

As she begun a series of questions, people in the gallery witnessing the proceedings couldn't help themselves not to grind in silent laughter. The manner of interrogations was likened to interviewing a child in his reformative years prior to acceptance in a kiddie school for the first time. As is, she miserably failed to live up to the expectations of her ever-loyal and true blooded followers who glued their ears in their monitors during the inquiry which was covered live by Radyo Aksyon via DZRH, their mother station in Manila.

To her dismay she failed to extract evidence that would send their subject of consternation to a guillotine.

Definitely she was not meant, nor intellectually fit to conduct a formal hearing such as this, intended only for the honorable gents and mesdames in the Hall of Congress.

She thought perhaps, the greatest opportunity in her political career has finally arrived as she was about to interrogate an honorable man, a much well-loved, known, and respected governor from her adopted province.

She was very much aware that the man was an extreme opposite of her father-in-law, a mortal political enemy since time immemorial. It was a rare of a lifetime she can never afford to miss, to hang the latter upside down, much more to humiliate him in public.

Governor Niel D. Tupas, the object of the inquiry came well prepared to answer all the accusations hurled by his tormentor.

Armed only with a position paper but high in spirit (as he strongly believes, truth will set him free), he managed to deliver and rebut in toto the malicious imputations by his tormentor on the alleged anomalies in the construction of the New Iloilo Airport Development Project (NIADP) in the boundary of Sta. Barbara and Cabatuan.

No less than Surigao Del Norte Rep. Prospero Pichay, who joined the congressional inquiry in 2003 initiated by then Rep. Augusto Syjuco accusing Gov. Tupas a thief, reportedly, got fed up, as there was nothing new in their investigation of the same nature. Obviously, it was just a rehash of the previous one which eventually got buried into oblivion.

For sure, people with vested interests are the only ones praying hard for the persecution of Tupas. This early they have to demolish him by hook or by crook. Their notions to tap the services of hoodlums in the broadcast industry in guise of public service, by getting the latter totally crippled, may lead them to a political victory all the way to the next elections.

Like the previous one, this congressional inquiry is a big insult to the great Ilonggo race, caused by a desperate man who can hardly distinguish a million from a billion.

The only difference between the two is, Syjuco, did it with sophistication, while the other is – never mind.

What a mockery!
