Pintawo : Artistic masterpiece painted beyond human soul

Artists are born genius by heart and soul. They can transform something into one great masterpiece with his artistic touch and stroke cloaked in panoramic colors that vibrantly reflects their hidden reveries and innermost expressions. To become an artist, all you need is an insatiable passion to express and spin your imaginations of a world beyond your world. So, what if instead of using the usual materials to visualize your great work of art, human body would definitely be the best medium to unleash your artistic imaginations. Now, make way for Pintawo , a unique and one-of-a-kind painting competition that for many years honed the artistic passion of Ilonggo artists.

Last Sunday, February 20, 2005 during the annual highlight of the culturally relevant celebration of Iloilo City , Pintawo or literally known as body painting competition gathered 25 versatile Ilonggo artists to compete for this exceptional competition as part of this year's Paraw Regatta. The painting competition started at exactly 9 in the morning together with some other Paraw Regatta activities like beach volleyball and poster-making contest at Villa Regatta Restaurant. All throughout the morning people of all walks of life gathered to witness how our great and young Ilonggo artists unveiled their creativity, ingenuity and express their innermost expressions about the essentialities of this special annual event in the preservation of our cultural heritage. Different colors and designs astounded the crowd as the Pintawo models gone through make-over and transform into living souls sheltered in artistic style and masterpiece. Though the striking heat of the sun burns everyone's anticipation while the multi-colored Paraw boats passed by the   famous Villa beach still the artistic inspiration keep the artists alive to paint, express and display their inner thoughts through visual arts. It simply implies and proves that Ilonggos are truly resourceful, ingenious and inventive in preserving their culture, heritage and at the same time passionate in arts. Believe me, Pintawo is a very innovative way to show the beauty of the past and the radiance of human soul.

Finally, the awarding of the top three Pintawo entries was held at Tatoy's Manokan by 1 pm. Angelo Endencio victoriously took home the grand prize of 3,000 pesos while Niel Capiñanes won 2,000 cash for second prize and John Bert Coronado swept away with 1,000 pesos for the third prize. This year's Pintawo painting competition was made possible through the generous support of Villa Regatta, Boysen Paints and Department of Tourism Region 6.
