An ordinary teacher's reverie to teach and inspire They say teaching is the noblest profession. A teacher can be a friend, adviser, counselor or someone who can share a piece of compassion within your weary soul. I know someone who is a teacher by heart and soul. She's simple, down-to-earth and compassionate. So, let me open your heart to her simple sentiments that means a lot for others whom she inspires in her own simple way… A simple soul For a Home Economics teacher like Ma'am Adrienne Dayaday-Veloso , life is about learning and sharing. She's a 27-year-old teacher at Jalandoni Memorial National High School Bo. Obrero Extension for almost three years. Ma'am Adrienne was born on September 4, 1977 at Mandurriao , Iloilo City . Her parents Hernani Dayaday and Erlinda Dayaday raised all five of them (she is the third child of three girls and two boys) to become responsible citizens in our society. She finished her elementary and high school studies at Mandurriao Elementary School and Mandurriao National High School , respectively. This soft-spoken teacher earned her BS Secondary Education degree at West Visayas State University major in Home Economics. Presently, she's taking up her Master of Science in Home Economics at West Visayas College of Science and Technology. Ma'am Adrienne is married to Engr . Arnold Veloso and presently resides in Bo. Ma'am Adrienne as an H.E. teacher loves cooking and reading all kinds of books that could give her wisdom. Cutting Edge is her all-time favorite film while Julia Roberts, Richard Gere , Eddie Murphy and Jim Carey remains to be her most adored Hollywood celebrities. “Life is good when it is inspired by love and guided by wisdom” is Ma'am Adrienne's philosophy in life. Since her younger years this sensible, good-hearted and amiable woman was already dreaming to become a real teacher after she was inspired by her benevolent teacher in high school. Deep in her heart she also wants to reach out for those young people who are lost and weary. Her friends even describe her as someone whom you can lend a hand, listen to her student's miseries in life and at the same time a perfect friend who never fails to brighten up the day. These are the reasons why she was truly loved and admired by her students who always recognize her effort to guide them towards a better future by dedicating their time in studies. Simple thoughts
How do you deal and establish rapport with your students? “In the classroom I encourage teacher/student relationship but outside the school I can be their friend, counselor, adviser and even a mother that would listen to their problems” What is a true teacher? “Teaching is the noblest profession but few are considered real teachers who can touch the lives of their students in the most compassionate way. You are effective as a teacher if you can inspire them to live a noble life. Someday your students will forget the things you taught them but they will remember you the way you are. Well, even if I don't have my own child yet, still I am surrounded with angels whom I can inspire” Can you tell us about your three unfulfilled dreams?
“Well, I would really want to have children of my own someday, to finish my post graduate studies and I pray that I would be financially stable in the future with my husband, enjoying life together” What's the easiest part and hardest part of your profession? “For me, it is easy to establish rapport with my students because I listen to their sentiments but I think it's hard if there are some conflicts with my fellow teachers” How do you foresee yourself 10 years from now? “Oh, at least I'm halfway with my dream as a teacher or maybe I'm already finish with my post graduate studies and still doing my best to fulfill my noble profession” Right now, what are the worst problems of the youth and what is your advice for these young people as the hope of our nation? “There's a lot of school drop-outs right now caused by vices, computer games addiction, pre-marital sex, early marriage and drug addiction. I hope their parents will do their part in guiding their children and help the school mold them as responsible citizens of the society. I always advise my students to prioritize their studies, stay away from vices, embrace sacrifice and pray for God's guidance” How do you want to be remembered as a teacher? “I don't want any material reward or recognitions but all I want for my students is to look back and realize that someone along the way a person like me has touched their lives and I think that is a priceless achievement for me. All I want from them is to say ‘hi' every time they meet me along the way” (Teach and inspire! Email the writer at rslphoenix@yahoo.com) |
