City's new abattoir to rise soon Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the city will have its new slaughterhouse by the last quarter of the year. The AA-standard butcher facility would be put up in a 2.3 hectare lot in Brgy . Tacas in Jaro district. Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Cesar Drilon launched the project on March 15 while the construction has already started. Treñas said there is an initial P5 million fund committed by DA for the installation of the main structure. He added the facility would include the perimeter fence, entry road, holding pen for animals, water system and wastewater treatment plan. By the time the slaughterhouse is finished, the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) will inspect it for an issuance of a certification. Earlier, the NMIS proposed three locations but had chosen the said area as the most ideal, Treñas noted. The project is a joint undertaking of the city government, DA, NMIS and the Office of Senator Franklin Drilon . Treñas cited that some equipment at the old slaughterhouse in Molo district would be transfer to the new site. The modern facility would produce the meat through a clean way of butchering the animals. It can be noted that the old slaughterhouse lacked the proper equipment being used that would meet the standards of processing meat products. |
