How to spot an 'actor' masquerading as politician

First of all, I would like to appeal to my fellow Ilonggos to embark on soul-searching binge this Holy Week. Let's all atone for our sins and ask forgiveness for all the wrongs we have done as ordinary mortals. Jesus Christ did not died in the cross for nothing.

I also would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my friend Alex P. Vidal for accurately predicting the result of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales fight in Las Vegas last March 19.

Alex had predicted that Morales would whip our hero Pacquiao in 12 rounds by unanimous decision, which was what actually happened.

It is very interesting to note that when Alex made the bold prediction over the broadcast interview and in some of his pre-fight feature and news articles, he was mocked and ignored by the partisan pro-Pacquiao Ilonggo boxing fans who believed in the invincibility of the Filipino boxer.

In fact, almost all sports analysts and boxing experts in the country had also rooted for Pacquiao but Alex stuck to his pre-fight analysis and sprinkled them with data and interesting backgrounder never before published in the major dailies.

Alex forecasted that the speedster from Mexico would outduel the Pacman from Gen. Santos City.

It turned out Alex was right. Congratulations, Alex and more power to Manny Pacquiao who is the idol of my teenage son Vonerick.

I was once a member of the showbiz world (and is still until today by virtue of my being a full-fledged member of our union) on technical aspect, not on the acting side—and I spent a lot of years working with a host of seasoned actresses and actors, not to mention the revered and multi-awarded directors and movie producers in the country.

That's why, I can easily discern what is reel from real, what is genuine and what is fake. Politicians who evoke an immaculate image always make me vomit. I just can't stand the pretensions of these cretins especially when they face media. And there are many of them in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

These holier-than-thou politicians are well advised to visit the holy places this Holy Week and pray that if they become rich due to graft and corruption, may the karma not befall on their off-springs.

Even in cash advances, some members of the Sanggunian are notoriously enslaved. They just can't help it; I mean, if they find an opportunity to make a huge cash advance, they will leave no stone unturned just to siphon the people's money and pass it off as “other expenses” to justify their “kurakot” in the liquidation report.

Sometimes, they submit or even manufacture bogus receipts to materialize their evil scheme. Take the case of a fat member of the Sanggunian who would always recite poems and Shakespearean lines as if he were inside the classroom during almost every media interview.

He is always on “out-of-town” trips, mostly in Manila . His modus operandi? He would ask an underling to make a cash advance, a huge cash advance sometimes in the tune of P50,000, sometimes P120,000.

This fat boy would liquidate the amount after two months, when nobody was watching and after he has made a killing of the paltry sum. He would submit a list of incredible “receipts” and “itinerary” from his junkets and smile his way to the cookie jar with impunity.

Alas, he has been doing this trick for the past four years! Que horror, Mr. TT.

And if Capitol has a Famas Award, the first recipient should be this galvanized-faced fat boy who speaks as if he is better than Bomber Moran. Sa cash advances lang, he will give the infamous Atty. Justine a run for his money.

The problem is, his acting repertoire is, in the showbiz words, “kumita na ‘yan.”

He wants to make it appear as Mr. Clean and Mr. Soft to every Tom, Dick and Harry. The truth is, he is no better than the scalawag we see both in the movies and in the real world. And he has the ambition to topple Gov. Niel D. Tupas.

Que horror, que barbaridad!
