Controversions with Phoenix

Nadine's starstruck silhouette

These days my anticipation is burning on how I can present my future stories of stars like Joross, Roxanne, Kirby, Viva Hot Babes and Troy ? (yes, he's a star too hehe!). Last week was definitely thrilling and intriguing as I unveiled Nadine Samonte's story. If you didn't catch my teaser about her last week then you ought to know that this lovely “Barbie-beauty” actress that started in Starstruck Avengers batch 1, took the lead role in GMA's afternoon soap operas “Ikaw sa Puso ko” and “Leya”.

Nadine Samonte & the writer.

Recently, Robinsons Place Iloilo requested her to have a mall show and entertain the “Starstruck” fanatic Ilonggos. Well, she sang, dance and mesmerized the crowd with her undeniable charisma. But before her sensational mall show, Nadine and me had an exclusive chat arranged by the marketing people of Robinsons. I dare to ask her revealing and funky questions that awakened the sensible soul within her. So, on this second part of my Nadine story here in “Controversions”, I am proud to unseal her sentiments and radiant ideas. Read on and skip no line…

RL: What completes your day?

Nadine: My day is perfect if I can watch many movies in my DVD player during my leisure time; see my fans happy every time I have mall tour or if my showbiz commitments are done well.

RL: Can you describe yourself in three words?

Nadine: I'm malambing, honest and sometimes magulo!

RL: What's the best thing and worst thing being a celebrity?

Nadine: Enjoy talaga ako like I can touch people's lives, be a role model for young people and I can show to everyone (especially to her critics) that I have talents. Worst thing? siyempre, yung mga rumors na di naman totoo!

RL: Since Oyo Boy Sotto is your leading man in the two soap operas of GMA before and Dion Ignacio is your Starstruck loveteam, can you describe them each in two words?

Nadine: Si Oyo Boy?… naku “astig” yun at tsaka moody. Si Dion naman gentleman at cariñoso!

RL: If you didn't become an actress and won in Starstruck, what career in life would you want to pursue?

Nadine: Since I was young gustong-gusto ko maging “lawyer” kasi nakakatulong ka sa ibang tao na mabigyan ng hustisya. Siguro someday kung may time mag-aaral ako ng law.

RL: If you were somebody else who would you want to be?

Nadine: Ay siguro! I just want to be myself, the real me and I am contented what God gave me in my life like my family and friends.

RL: If love is calling you to give up your career would you do it?

Nadine: Never noh! Kasi I believe that I've worked hard for my career and I want to make it good especially now God is good to me. Love can wait at tsaka if somebody loves me he will wait for the right time.

RL: What are the three things that people don't know about you but they deserve to know?

Nadine: Well, I watch four to five DVD movies during my free time, I tell all my secrets to my mom because she should know about it and I'm trying to help poor people in my own way.

RL: Do you have any dream projects in showbiz?

Nadine: Marami talaga but I'm not expecting too much. Instead, I just keep my faith in God and whatever comes my way is his will.

RL: What makes Iloilo different from other places you've visited so far?

Nadine: Iloilo is great, lahat ng tao nakasmile talaga at tsaka they appreciate your effort to entertain them. Kung may chance babalik ako dito to do another show!

RL: In your two soap operas that ended in GMA few months ago (Ikaw sa Puso ko and fantaserye “Leya”), what's your favorite one?

Nadine: I love to do dramatic roles and I want to be treated as dramatic actress so I think I love “Ikaw sa Puso ko” with Oyo Boy Sotto.

RL: The youth has many problems and pressures these days, what advice can you give them as their role model?

Nadine: Kailangan talaga they should know what they want in life, think about the consequences of their actions, listen to their parents and don't forget God wherever they go.

Whew! I love the way she unveiled her sweet smile reflecting the radiance of an angel and her sensible words that makes this youngstar truly exceptional in the harsh world of showbiz. That was a sweet experience to interview Nadine Samonte, recently considered as one of the most beautiful faces in the entertainment scene. So, I think you better watch out if GMA will really give her a big role in their new primetime soap opera in the near future because she's someone who's got real talent to show. Anyway, thanks again to Clyde and Rofel of Robinsons, to my DX friends Cheaster and Charo for the company and to Nadine's amiable mom and manager. “Controversions” will glitter in the glossy pages of BLURB magazine few weeks from now wherein I'll be featuring a sensational VJ/actress and a local fashionista entity.
