J Scott Sarria's way of making life flamboyant Do you love to do things your way? Yes, all of us have this inner reveries and aspirations to make life more colorful, vivid, flamboyant, and spectacular in our own simple way. It's all about proving who we are and showing what we can do with life. I know one unique soul who uses his heart well to make everything about life simply worth living… A vivid view of life
J Scott Galvez Sarria is the dynamic 25-year-old Manager of Days Hotel, considered as one of the premier hotels in Metro Iloilo located atop The Atrium Mall along Bonifacio Drive . This flamboyant yet humble person was born on June 27, 1979 to a business oriented couple namely Julius Sarria, an aquaculture expert and Nanette Sarria, a responsible housewife that manages her own bakery business. He is the youngest of three siblings. Scott took his elementary and high school studies at University of the Philippines Los Baños (from Kindergarten to Grade 3) and Gandhi Memorial International School in Jakarta , Indonesia (from Grade 4 to high school). In 1996, he came back to Iloilo to pursue his BS Management course at St. Paul 's College, now a prestigious university in the region. In fact, since his younger years until his college life, Scott remains to be an achiever and a person with great sensibilities. He is often called “Paul Cee” because of his feat as an elected president of the Business Administration Department of St. Paul's University. His strong leadership, amiable character and positive perspective earned the respect of his schoolmates as a popular campus figure. Soon after his graduation, Scott was hired as the youngest Manager of Days Hotel and his work gave him wider opportunity to enhance his personality of dealing with people of all walks of life. “I like to do things my way, and like any human being you often doubt your decisions but instead of doing it the hard way, I do it in simple way,” Scott told me that his unique philosophy in life makes him more flexible and relevant to other people. This sensible guy who never let his day done without wearing a smile loves to play basketball during his leisure time. He also confesses to write poems as expression of his inner thoughts and recently, he developed a passion for arts that he slowly develops through his close acquaintances with his fellow artists here in the city. Scott loves the company of open-minded people particularly those who are witty and humorous while he dislikes pretentious individuals. He loves movies and Hollywood stars, in fact some of his favorites are Brad Pitt of “Meet Joe Black” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” by Jim Carey. He's also fond of Robin Williams and Robert De Niro for their flexibility in acting. Scott is a “hip hop” fanatic but sometimes adores 60s and 70s music like The Beatles, Barry White and Paul McCartney (his dad influenced him to love these old sounds). Another astonishing revelation I got from Scott during our witty conversation at The Promenade was when he admitted that he was once a lead vocalist of a band way back in College and a member of a church choir. Believe me, this guy is absolutely sensible and talented. Flamboyant thoughts Scott's name is interesting not because it is similar to Scott Summers (a.k.a. Cyclops of X-men) but his flamboyant personality and straightforward answers makes everyone like me feel this guy live life with less complexity and ease. Now, read his thoughts… My three wishes and dreams for the future are… my friends will always be happy and proud of me (I have two accounts in ‘Frendsters'), always try to be a better person and fulfilment of every good wish for every person in the world. Realities of life that made me say life is good and cruel are… good because after I graduated in college I became successful and blessed with my family and my girlfriend who supported me 101%, cruel coz' there are those who tried to pull me down. What it's like to be me… I'm busy and I must admit that I'm at the very edge of getting married. Now, if I do nothing I might die! (laughs). My hidden talents are… singing and dancing, I used to sing and dance a lot in college. Oh, I play drums too! If I were a ‘certain place in a hotel', I'd like to be… the whole hotel because I'm a hotel manager and the youngest they say! (laughs). Social issues that bother me… is the negative issue with Iraq and Abu Sayaff, I mean I grew up in a Muslim country in my younger years (Indonesia in particular) and I came back here only to see a lot of discrimination with these people. Religion issue is always a big deal and so we need to respect our Muslim brothers. We are equal in the eyes of God. Days Hotel is exceptional because…‘Quality' is the key word, the ambiance, the food and the service is different and truly exceptional plus the people who work here remains to be the hotel's best asset! Things that are lacking and things I am proud of about Iloilo are… there's so much to be done and promoted about Iloilo 's tourism, that's what makes me proud as an Ilonggo because Iloilo has a lot to show in terms of cultural heritage and wealth. The hardest and easiest part of my job… it's hard to give orders to people who already worked here in the hotel before I was hired (I was 23 when I started to work here) but I've overcome that because I respect them. It's easy to work with people who are open-minded and generous. My three favourite words are…Hi, Thanks and you're welcome! (now the last one is two words). My favorite expression is… “Uyy!”...very Ilonggo! |
