Polibiz Stop making a noise, you hypocrites! It is getting crystal clear that more and more rational-minded Ilonggos are in favor of the proposed coal-fired power plant in the towns of Concepcion and Barotac Viejo, Iloilo . In fact, if these open-minded and clear-thinking residents will embark on holding their own rally, they can outnumber the so-called cause-oriented organizations opposing the project. The truth is, only a handful of leftist propagandists and some overacting clergymen led by a dysfunctional priest, whose name I will not mention, are spreading misleading information against the mammoth project which is the surefire answer to the looming power crisis in Panay according to experts from the Department of Energy (DoE). Who are more competent, the DoE experts or the fire-spewing leftist propaganda agents and the so-called “spiritual” leaders? -o0o- If the issue here is about going to heaven and recitation of the litany of saints, then I will rest my case and pave the way for these loquacious individuals. But, for God's sake, the matter is about energy or electric power which is the domain of the DoE experts. Proponents of the coal-fired power plant did not just coin the idea overnight just to serve the whims and caprices of a few technocrats. They made a no non-sense and serious study about the matter and risked their professions and reputations to come up with the suggestion that only a power plant can save us from the looming power shortage in 2007. -o0o- What I cannot fathom is the propensity of these saboteurs (pardon me for the harsh term) to ride on the issue just to malign some people in government and even NGOs supportive of the project. Ugly stories have been circulated by these ruffians painting some mayors and even Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. of supposedly receiving under-the-table payola and what-have-you gifts just to push for the coal-fired plant. We all know these are all lies, total falsehoods and malicious innuendos meant to smokescreen their real motive which is make a loud noise and solicit funds to sustain their muckraking binge. -o0o- In doing so, the so-called pro-environment “activists” can attract the attention of naïve but rich donors who they will convince to subsidize their “crusade” and, pronto, pera na naman! Yes, Virginia, all this hullabaloo boils down to money. Some of these protesters are, in fact, a bunch of extortionists who make a living through intimidation and blackmail by using as camouflage their being “activists.” We were not born yesterday and my appeal is for them to stop their charade and hypocrisy because we are not in the show business. -o0o- If we want progress for Iloilo, let's band together and promote investment, not sabotage it. Investors will be most willing to pour their millions in a project that will redound to the benefit of the majority. They are not stupid to risk their investment in a potentially disastrous project such as the coal-fired power plant which has been certified by no less than the experts in the energy sector. -o0o- On the lighter side, Nora Aunor is my contemporary in showbiz--she acts while I assist the director. I had the chance to have a tete-a-tete with the Superstar on countless occasions during some of our filmaking sessions in the late 70s and I can say that she is an amiable person. As to the issue whether or not she uses drugs, is beyond my comprehension. All I know is that many actors and actresses are using drugs in order to arrest fatigue and other physical and psychological factors that go with their job. |
