21 new records established in the recent Palaro


The recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2005 held in the Iloilo City Sports Complex this city has left a significant mark as 21 new records were established during the week-long event.

Based on the official record of the Results and Documentation Committee of the Palaro, out of the 21 new records, 15 of these are in swimming and the rest in athletics.

In swimming, Ryan Paolo Arabejo of National Capital Regional Athletic Association (NCRAA) broke three records when he set a new time of 4:08.36 in 400 M Freestyle (Secondary Boys), 2:12.61 in 200 M Backstroke and 1:59.92 in 200 M Freestyle. Also, Banjo Borja of NCRAA broke his own record in 200 M Individual Medley (Elementary Boys) with a new time of 2:27.50 and set a new time of 31.19 in 50 M Backstroke.

Oher individual record breakers in swimming are Kendrick Uy of NCRAA for 100 M Freestyle (Secondary Boys), Ernest Lorenzo Dee of Bicol Regional Athletic Association (BRAA)in 100 M Butterfly (Secondary Boys), Gerard Gabriel Bordado of BRAA in 100 M Breaststroke (Secondary Boys).

Also, new swimming records were established in 4X50 M Medley Relay (Elementary Girls) by NCRAA, 4X50 M Medley Relay (Secondary Boys) by BRAA, 4X100 medley relay by NCRAA (Elementary Boys), 4X50 M Freestyle relay (Secondary Girls) by NCRAA, 4X100 M Freestyle relay by NCRAA (Elementary Boys and Girls)and 4X100 M Freestyle relay by Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA).

In athletics, Richard Maulion of CALABARZON was the first record breaker, when he broke the meet's record in Triple Jump of 12.47 meters to 12.48 during the first day of the week-long event.

Other record breakers in athletics include Sonny Boy Tartana of NCRAA in Discuss Throw (Elementary Boys), Irin Balauran of Central Visayas Rergional Athletic Association (CVRAA) in Triple Jump (Elementary Girls), Clifford John Bonjoc of CVRAA in Discuss Thros (Secondary Boys), Marlon Arlos of WVRAA in 400 M Hurdles (Secondary Boys)and Precious Que of NCRAA in High Jump (Elementary Girls).

Division of Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Raymundo Lapating said this is the first Palarong Pambansa that no athlete has been disqualified. (PIA)
