City readies for flash floods, dengue outbreak
According to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas the declogging of the city's drainage mains which started early this year is still ongoing. Treñas said he has instructed the City Engineers Office here to conduct declogging operations in several parts of the city particularly identified as flood-prone areas. These include the drainage systems in Barangays Tanza and Mabini at the City Proper district, parts of General Luna Street, Plaza Libertad and the area near the Social Service System. However, he pointed out that the flooding in some parts of the city is not only caused by clogged drainage mains, but also by the rising tide. The city government has fully implemented the no segregation, no collection scheme on garbage. With this, less waste and garbage is expected to find its way into the drainage system. Aside from the regular clearing runs of the city's drainage system, Treñas said barangay residents were given materials for clean up. Aside from flood, the city government is also making ready for the possible outbreak of dengue. To avoid dengue, residents must dispose tires where rainwater could accumulate and stagnate and provide the perfect breeding places for the aedes aegypti and aedes albopictus mosquitoes which carry the dengue H-fever virus .
