Gunsmith faces charges

Police are readying readying charges for violation of Republic Act 8294 against Alberto Sabido of Sitio Bawi, Barangay 4 in San Miguel.

Sabido was arrested Friday last week for illegal possession of firearms after a raiding team from the Iloilo Provincial Police Office and San Miguel police recovered a cache of firearms from his residence.

Recovered from Sabido's house were two unlicensed homemade 12-gauge shotgun, electric drill, electric sander, vise clamp, two air rifle, unfinished .22 caliber revolver, .38 caliber revolver, 16 empty shells of 12-gauge shotgun, empty shells of caliber .38 revolver, empty shells of .22 caliber revolver and various gunsmith tools.

The 58-year old suspect said he has been into the gun making and repair business for a long time. He said gun making is his means of livelihood. He also provides firearms to barangay tanods in their barangay.
