PGMA inaugurates AMOSUP Seamen's Hospital

Members of the Associated Marine Officers' and Seamen's Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) witnessed the grand blessing and inauguration of the AMOSUP Seamen's Hospital in Mandurriao, Iloilo City last June 30, 2005.

Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was the guest of honor in the inauguration that was also graced by AMOSUP officials led by their president Capt. Gregorio S. Oca.

A thanksgiving mass celebrated by Fr. Boy Celis, parish priest of Mandurriao, preceeded the blessing and inauguration.

President Arroyo, who gave a brief remark during the occasion, lauded the officials of the AMOSUP for putting up a hospital that directly impact on the needs of the organization's  members and dependents in Western Visayas.

The President said she was happy to note that "our seafarers and their families are well taken care of by the private sector, people's organizations and by the government as well".

The AMOSUP Seamen's Hospital-Iloilo sits on a 3,300 square meter lot in Oñate Street, Mandurriao. It has three stories and a 40-bed capacity.

The hospital, AMOSUP's third in the country—the other two located in Manila and Cebu—will be staffed by a team of competent medical practitioners duly certified in their fields of expertise.

Also, services at this new facility will be fully departmentalized: Pediatrics; Surgery; Internal Medicine; Obstetrics-Gynecology; EENT; Pathology and Radiology. Ancillary services will include dietary and food service, pharmacy, emergency room, operating and delivery rooms and ambulance service.

Reportedly, all medical and surgical services including laboratory, x-ray and ultrasound in this facility will be offered to AMOSUP members and their dependents free of charge. Medicines will also be dispensed free of charge.
