UPV celebrates 58 years in Iloilo
This year's theme is in the form of a self-reflection UPV @ 58: What's Our Quiddity? and is addressed to all UPV constituents. Quiddity means the essence that makes something the kind of thing it is and makes it different from any other. Thus, the week-long activities will be devoted to capturing UPV's quiddity. The titles of the various programs provide an intimation on what it means to be at UPV. ...an unexamined life is not worth living, quotes UPV Chancellor, Dr. Ida Siason. Introspection into the spirit of the institution where we study or work can be a productive exercise. Definition provides us labels and frames, which can allow us to change and grow in the direction from our point of definition, she says. The Chancellor believes that the UPV Foundation Week 2005 is as good a time as any for a soul-search. The installation of a new UP President that coincides with the week of the UPV anniversary, brings new hopes to open up new frontiers, notes Dr. Siason. To prepare for this, we need to know where we are in the context of what we have been aspiring to be, she adds. On Monday, 18 July 2005, 8:30 a.m., the opening program at the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City campus, is aptly called Discovering the Essence of Being to feature through a video presentation the quiddity of UPV. On the afternoon of the same day, 2:00 p.m. at SM City Iloilo, there will be a showcase of the following: Moving Boldly Forward: The Way of the Future Institutional Exhibits & Pre-Investiture Exhibit on U.P. President Emerlinda R. Roman Narrowing the Knowledge Gap UPV Contributions on Display: Books and Publications Creating, Innovating to Improve Productivity UPV Contributions on Display: New Products and Technology The succeeding days of the week-long celebration will have various meaningful activities.
