Flood in Iloilo City is due to clogged up sewage system, these was installed during the Spanish era and it should be filled with mud, metal and plastic debris which could not be flushed out with rain water. There is now a simple rotor burrowing machine which is available to clean out toilet bowls, syphon drains of sinks, bathtubs, etc. but the ones used for the sewage bigger drainage pipes have bigger heads. This device cost some amount of money but it would be an excellent investment and less expensive than the treatment needed for the disease spread by the flood.

City should go ahead with the widening of the creeks around Iloilo City. Relocation of squatters living in the creeks and mouth of the rivers is a must. Also, make it illegal to dump garbages in any creeks, and rivers in the whole Panay Island!!!
TERRI AMADOR
Honest public servants.
TIBONG JARDELEZA
Build sewers but where's the bucks?
RONILO PAMONAG
A comprehensive flood control project, and that includes a working drainage system. If JPT wants, he could put a roof over all Iloilo City… hehehe
RAYMUND SALAO
Stricter anti-littering laws. Strict AND Serious.
PHILIP UY
Discipline! The biggest contributor to the recent flood is garbage… while the city government is doing what it can to efficiently collect and dispose garbage, I believe the citizenry has to do its part in cleaning up our city.
PERLA BAGUIO
We have to start the flood control project. If funding not ready, rehabilitate the drainage, or simply clear the drainage of garbage.
LAWRENCE YU
Storm drainage outlet via Iloilo river. It should be done at nights so as not to disrupt traffic during daytimes.
MICHAEL CALING
Let it stop RAINING! SOBRA na ang OPINIONS! We need ACTION!
PAUL PESTAÑO
No solution coz politicians don't like drainage projects. No publicity and people can't see their names.
LANGGA JAVELLANA
People should cooperate in proper disposal of garbage. Discipline begins at home.
TING TING CASTELLS
The solution is very simple – each and every individual in Iloilo MUST earnestly observe proper disposal of garbage. The moment the idea of our getting involved is imbedded in each and every one of us, Iloilo will be garbage free and for sure the Philippines will be a great nation as we all strive together in any endeavor.
MILDRED NECESSARIO
I think it's time that the city government should consider constructing good roads and proper drainage system which should be maintained by those declogging machine. I'm sure the government can afford these machines considering they have constructed a lot of nonsense skywalks. They should have purchased the machines a long time ago. It's a pity they wasted our tax money.
LORIZA DEROY
Short term plan is to clear all drainage. Long term plan is Mayor Treñas' solution…. Hehehe
ATTY. NELA TAN
The government should anticipate the regular flooding and clean the drainage before the rainy season to declog it of garbage.
PAOLO MAGALONA
Better drainage system. Proper disposal of waste. Enough funds to support the drive for flood-free Iloilo.
PAULINE GORRICETA-BANUSING
As expected, no one to blame but our own garbage disposal habits, carelessness with our wastes and not even tying to practice recycling.
PATTY BORRES-GARCIA
Rehabilitate all drainage systems and a total ban to the usage of plastic products in preparing / serving food for a start.
MACOY QUILANTANG
Solution: Clean Iloilo's drainage thoroughly, not just the canals but also the sewers. Strictly implement a city law that throwing trash even cigarette butts in the streets is prohibited just like in Singapore. Therefore, the local government should put garbage cans along the sidewalks. Exhume garbage beneath all river beds before the monson season comes. Build more river dams outside the dity. Then let us all be responsible citizens of Iloilo.
STELLA ARUNGAYAN
I think we should be concious of where we throw our garbage. I feel that we should rid our sidewalks of vendors who live in their stalls coz they do anything and everything there. They can't even clean their frontage.
PAQUI CARAM
As the Mayor & the city engineer. They are being paid to find a solution to such a simple problem. If they can't, lets put somebody who can.
LEONARD TIROL
To solve the problem of flooding in the city of Iloilo, you need political will. Demolish all the shanties and fishpens along the riverbanks and creeks, especially those that extend their property line by claiming part of it. All these serves as outlets and should be free flowing. Government should check clogged portions of the drainage system and clear them. If they can't do this and flooding continues, you'll one day see jetskis instead of cars in the streets.
