OWWA launches IT training program for OFWs and their dependents

 

The communication gap between the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents is expected to be solved soon after the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) implements a program that will be of great help to both parties in broadening their knowledge and upgrading their skills in Information Technology (IT). 

OWWA VI Director II Saul de Vries said the OWWA/DOLE-Microsoft IT Program for OFWs and their dependents was launched in Cebu City recently. This is open to all OFWs and their immediate family members who are at least high school level.

Under the program there are nine courses offered for free which include Computer Fundamentals (8 hrs.), Internet and Worldwide Web Fundamentals (16 hrs.), Computer Fundamentals (24 hrs.), Digital Media Fundamentals (16 hrs.), Web Design Fundamentals (16 hrs.), Word Processing Fundamentals (16 hrs.), Presentation Fundamentals (16 hrs.), Database Fundamentals (16 hrs.) and Spreadsheet Fundamentals (16 hrs.).

Those who are interested to avail of the program are required to submit the following: accomplished application form with ID picture (1 pc); proof of OWWA membership; and proof of relationship to the OFW if applicant is a family member such as marriage certificate for spouse of OFW and birth certificate for children, brother/sister, parents of OFW.

De Vries said enrollment is now going on and trainings for Visayas are conducted in Cebu. The grantees will have to shoulder their transportation, board and lodging. Other training sites are OWWA Manila and the Hongkong Embassy.
