Captain Milagrosa Mijillano hosted the 5 th DENR People's Day implemented by CENRO San Jose, Antique for the Year 2005. This was held at the Ingwan-Batangan Elementary School last July 25, 2005. A total of 89 persons participated in their respective capacities as Resource persons, facilitators and clienteles. The teachers and students of the school deviated their classes and listened to the different resource persons who lectured on topics like Peace and order, Illegal cutting of trees, Ecological solid waste Management Act, Sand and Gravel Quarrying and Environmental Impact Assessment, and Public Land Act and Land Management. In cognizance of the celebration of July as Nutrition Month, the DENR also stressed the importance of healthy living, balance food intake and clean eating habits that is the core objective of RA 9003 otherwise known as the Solid Waste Management Act. The DENR People's Day is a strategy to reach out far-flung barangays through a series of intimate consultation-dialogue with the community aimed to bring the government closer to the people. The residents were given information about the different programs and projects of the government of which they can avail of through lecturettes. This is also part of the ten-point agenda of the President by giving education for all whether it is formal or informal. This strategy does not only inform the people but giving them a chance to counteract with employees in government thus giving them an opportunity for a first-hand government service without hassle in going to the urban centers to avail these services. Regional Executive Director, Celso V. Loriega, Jr. said that the sustainability of the DENR People's Day would depend on the determination of the CENROs to educate the people about the DENR's functions. RED Loriega further lauds the efforts of CENR Officer of San Jose, Jesse Vego for his commitment to the program. (San Jose CIO) |
