Crime Prevention Week celebration startsStarting September 1-7 the whole country will celebrate the 11 th National Crime Prevention Week with the theme: “Barangay kag Pumuluyo Maghiliugyon: Kriminalidad Tapna-on!” and the Slogan: “Barangay Limpyuhon, Kriminalidad Dula-on!”. Presidential Proclamation No. 461 dated August 31, 1994 declares the first week of September of every year as the National Crime Prevention Week. The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) will spearhead the celebration in cooperation with the member agencies of the Criminal Justice System (CJS). In this week-long nationwide celebration, the NAPOLCOM and the PNP including other government agencies, non-government organizations, local government units, civic groups, academe, business sector, the media and the Barangay Officials will join hands in an endeavor to fight crime, restore order and preserve peace in the Barangays. Likewise, they will educate the public on the importance of crime prevention and the role that the Criminal Justice System plays in the prevention and control of crime since peace and order is simply within our reach if only we put our act together. Here in the city and province of Iloilo, a Thanksgiving Mass will open the celebration at 8:00 A.M. at the Mary Mart Mall, Iloilo City to be officiated by Rev. Fr. Nene Sinoy to be followed by an opening ceremony. Expected to attend the ceremony are Governor Niel Tupas, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas and Guimaras Governor Rahman A. Nava, Chairman of Regional Peace & Order Council as guest of honor and speaker. At the end of the opening ceremony, Barangay Officials from the city will pledge their support in fighting criminality by signing a Pledge of Commitment. In the afternoon, a symposium on Crime Prevention will be held at Port San Pedro National High School to be participated in by the Port San Pedro high-school students. On September 2, the Regional Peace & Order Council will conduct a meeting at 9:00 a.m. and at 2 p.m., a symposium on the 5 Pillars of the Criminal Justice System, Illegal Drugs and Threats of Terrorism will be conducted at De Paul College, Jaro, Iloilo City to be participated in by the high-school and college students of the said school. And on September 3 a series of “Hinun-anon sa Barangay” will be held at Arevalo District Gym at 9:00 a.m., Molo covered gym at 10:00 a.m. and Jaro covered gym at 2:00 p.m. to be participated by the Barangay Officials of Arevalo, Molo and Jaro respectively. While on September 4, another series of “Hinun-anon sa Barangay” will be conducted at La Paz covered gym at 9:00, Mandurriao covered gym at 10:00 and Brgy. Tanza-Esparanza covered gym at 2:00 in the afternoon to be participated by the Barangay Officials of La Paz, Mandurriao and Brgy. Tanza-Esperanza respectively. A series of lectures on the Role of the 5 Pillars of the CJS, Illegal Drugs and Threats of Terrorism will be conducted at John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation in Arevalo and at the Western Institute Technology in La Paz, on September 5 and 6 respectively. Capping the celebration will be the Bloodletting at 8:00 a.m. and a PNP Orchestra Concert and Recognition of the Outstanding Barangays in the city of Iloilo at 4:00 p.m. on September 7, 2005 at Camp Delgado Multi-Purpose Hall.
