TF Bakhaw strikes with drug busts
Threats up on member cops
By Florence F. Hibionada
Operatives of the “baby” police precinct in one city barangay beset with drug problems made their presence felt with three significant drug arrests over the weekend. The comeback came late Sunday evening in the form of a pillbox hurled at the police station.
Sent to set-up operation in the area with carefully selected men, Chief Inspector Julio Gustilo of Task Force Bakhaw began to implement “with fervor” the city's anti-illegal drugs drive.
In a radio interview, Gustilo said he and his men are bent on ridding the barangay with the drug menace. Thus this message to drug peddlers and users, “stop, because we will not, until we get you.”
The arrests netted suspected drug-pusher Ronnie Anito Jr. and suspected users/buyers 23 year-old Rafael Porras of Benedicto, Jaro and a reported former Army intelligence agent, Dexter Estandarte.
Several sachets of suspected shabu were recovered from the said suspects who are presently detained at the Mandurriao police precinct.
Meantime, a pillbox was thrown at the ‘baby' precinct 10:45 pm Sunday. Two male suspects were seen fleeing the scene seconds thereafter heading towards the nearby Barangay Desamparados, Jaro. Nobody was reported injured in the incident as validation continues to ascertain those responsible.
Locals in Barangay Bakhaw believe the pillbox was meant to ‘scare' the police or at least send a stern message to back off with their drug campaign.
A “baby” police precinct in Bakhaw, Mandurriao was officially opened last Saturday with the presence of barangay, city and police officials.
The precinct would be the homebase of the 34-man Task Force Bakhaw.
The task force was given three months by Mayor Jerry Treñas to cleanse Brgy. Bakhaw of illegal drugs.
