Guv answers graft raps, tells Ombudsman, 'I did no wrong'

Gov. Niel Tupas
Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas

Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas came out to beat the deadline set by the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas.  This was in line with the earlier criminal and administrative complaints lodged before said anti-graft body that had him and two other Capitol executives named as respondents.

In a two-page affidavit, The News Today learned that main response of the Governor was a strong denial of the charges alongside his profession of innocence.

“I vehemently deny the allegations,” excerpts of Tupas' sworn affidavit stated while referring to the alleged commission of malversation of public funds, falsification of public documents and grave misconduct in office.

“The truth is that all the transactions and matters subject of the complaint of Monsignor Meliton Oso et. al, are above-board and in accordance with existing laws, Executive Orders, rules and regulations,” the Governor continued.  “That in extending financial assistance to the Provincial Board Members' League of the Philippines (PBMLP) I have never falsified any documents nor tolerated, allowed or consented to the use of falsified documents, that I never expected nor received any gift, present, share, percentage or benefit for myself or for any other reason.”

Tupas was charged along with Board Member Cecilia Capadosa and Budget Officer Elena Lim.  The Governor, as in previous cases filed before the anti-graft body will be aided by Provincial Legal Office Chief, noted lawyer, Salvador Cabaluna.

Standing as complainants in this latest Ombudsman raps is the People's Graftwatch of Iloilo headed by Monsignor Oso.
