Loomweaver to represent Aklan in an Asian museumKalibo, Aklan—A loom-weaver is among those invited to represent the country in an exhibit of Asian Museum in San Franccisco, California on September 9-16, 2005 Anna India-Legazpi, of the Heritage Arts and Crafts said that they have sent Nelia Rogano to exhibit the abaca and pina loomweaving industry in the said fair to be participated by Asian countries. The Heritage Arts and Crafts has been invited for the event because it has succesfully exported piña and abaca products in various countries such as Japan, France and some European countries. Among those prominent companies that patronize their products is Calvin Kline. "Rogano will be demonstrating the abaca and piña loomweaving tradition in Aklan which originally dates back during the pre-Spanish period. We aim to revive Kalibo not only as the Piña Capital of the Philippines but of the world as well," Legazpi said. Aside from loom-weaving, the Department of Trade and Industry also hopes to present the Fiber Festival of the province usually celebrated during Aklan's anniversary held every month of April. For several years, the Heritage Arts and Crafts has been recieving orders from all over the world high-end products such as abaca and piña made pillow covers and piña cloth among others. |
