Misleading report on Solong Bridge countered

San Jose, Antique—The spokesman of Governor Salvacion Perez recently assailed the attempt of some mediamen here to mislead the people with regard to the real status of the Solong Bridge project in Sibalom, Antique.

A picture recently came out in one newspaper showing a group of mediamen posing in front of only one pier and captioned that P41 million was spent on it.

“We owe it to the people, especially the Sibalomnons, to state the real score and not to let the public be victimized by unscrupulous mediamen who omitted the right information which in turn serves partisan interests,” explained Perez's spokesperson Eric Otayde in a radio interview.

Provincial engineer Manuel Salazar earlier denied the said newspaper report. In a progress report he presented to the office of the governor it was stated that the project is still on going and that only P34.21 million was spent as of yet.

To counter the alleged misleading report the provincial information office came out with a clarification showing a newspaper clipping with the picture of the said pier captioned with alleged quoted figure (P 41 M) posted side by side with the picture of actual work done and the engineer's technical description of the progress report in the New Capitol bulletin board.

The provincial engineer was upset by the way media men treated the technical facts presented to them. The work is on going for P 150 million six-span steel of 360 meters presidential bridge project.

In last year's SOPA Gov. Sally Z. Perez gave assurance to the completion of Solong Bridge before the end of her term. She maintains the same earnestness since that first time she committed to the project. (PIO-Antique)
