EDITORIAL Commitment to public serviceThe News Today was born at a time when there was political and economic instability in the country. That was the time when moves to topple down the Estrada administration started. The political turmoil has greatly affected the economy which resulted in the rise of inflation putting the country in “critical” condition. It was not long when Pres. Arroyo was catapulted into power. Eventually the economy became quite stabilized, but not for long... All along Estrada's allies wanted to regain power from Arroyo. Unfortunately they failed. In fact, Arroyo became a duly elected president after she won in 2004 election. However, the political squabble did not end there. Presently the country is beset with another political crisis. No less than the president and her family are being accused of graft and corruption. And whether Arroyo would last until the end of her term in 2010 now becomes a hanging question. During these tumultous times the media is always in the forefront of events—letting the people know of what is happening around them and in the process make them active participants and not just mere spectators. And The News Today is proud to have shared this responsibility during the past five years. This commitment to public service remains as The News Today moves on to another challenging year. That is our promise. |
