Opinion Polls
By Marichel Teves-Magalona
Are you in favor of the government’s move to sell the jewelries of former first lady Imelda Marcos? Why or why not?
DR. THERESE ROBLES
In favor. And hopefully the proceeds will be able to alleviate our country’s debt.
STELLA ARUNGAYAN
No. I go with Sen. Jamby that it should be in a museum as it will generate more funds in the long run. If sold we’ll never know to whose coffers it will go.
MELLISA SOLIVEN
No. Same reason as Jamby’s. Irrevocable ini.
LYNNIE DENILA
Yes because they were ill gotten, but first, put them in a museum for all to see for a fee.
PIA NAVA
Yes because its but a mere portion of what they’ve stolen from the Philippines.
DR. KRISTIN TREÑAS
Finally! Give them back to their rightful owner – Juan dela Cruz!
ANN DIVINAGRACIA
Yes. If the government can’t take back its billions, then it might as well try to take back its millions.
CARMEL CASTAÑARES
Yes! Yes! Yes gid! Obviously we need cash especially for education.
REBECCA MARAVILLA
Why don’t they instead display them to show the world what greed is all about.
SAM PRUDENTE
No. It will not increase food on the poor man’s plate, will not give jobs to the unemployed, will not make the sick healthy, nor turn the ills of society into VIRTUES!
ELIZA JUNE VERDE-PAGTANAC
I think it is better we sell some so we can use the proceeds to pay our obligations and keep some in a museum for Filipinos and tourists to see.
MILDRED NECESSARIO
No, because the government still has other ways to secure budgets for their projects. If lack of budget is the problem, so what is the purpose of eVat then? I agree with Sen. Madrigal’s proposition TO KEEP THESE JEWELRIES IN A MUSEUM AS AN ADDED TOURIST ATTRACTION AND FOR US TO SEE AND APPRECIATE AS WELL. Those jewels are rare collections, why sell them away. We should treasure it.
COREL LOCSIN-YAP
No, just give it to me!
JANE LOZARITA
Yes because those jewelries were bought using people's money.
CHRISTIA ABLONA
NO… They must be in a museum for they are part of history of our country.
RICHIE GARCIA
Yes, it is the people’s money, we need CASH!
PATTY BORRES-GARCIA
It only leads me to question who will benefit from the sale of such jewelries? Government says it is for land reform, but will it benefit the landless or will it be diverted again?
DR. BELLE JAYME
They are not CROWN JEWELS so YES. Anything to boost the coffers of government. Hopefully not the pockets of officials. Sell also her shoes, clothes, bags, ukay-ukay style. Sell everything that is of Imelda, I’m sure they are “the good, the true, and the beautiful”. People will be interested.
ANNIE HECHANOVA-SANTOS
Yes, but who will check where the money will go? Hope it goes to a good cause not in their pockets.
JOANNE NEAR
No, I’m not. The money used to buy these were from Filipinos. Selling those, indeed, will bring back the money. The problem: Are they sure that this is for the welfare of all or to welfare of someone’s pocket? This procedure is pointless.
KHUY HARESCO
No. Because it belongs to her. And she was not yet convicted of any court in the Philippines. But mind you she has a magnificent collection.
JOSIE CARAM
Yes, it has long been decided that they form part of the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses.
AMY WONG
No, because it is her jewelries, not the government’s. In other words, they are stealing the jewelries of the Marcoses.
SOFIA UMADHAY
Yes, so that it can be converted to cash and to be used for projects that can benefit a greater number of people.
MANOLET TEVES
No. Because the money will only go to corruption. Enough is enough!
GRACE CLAVEL
Yes. But we have to make sure it will be used to benefit the Filipino people and not the greedy, corrupt government officials.
LOURDES LIM
I’m not. I suggest to put it in a museum so we can earn money to attract more tourists to visit our country like other nations.
CAROLINE JAVELLANA
Yes, I am in favor of the government’s move to sell the jewelries of former first lady Imelda Marcos because it can help a lot to save our country. We can have it pay for the debts our country has.
SANDY DIZON-LIM
Yes because the money used to buy them was stolen from the government.
DR. WENDY UY
Yes of course! Why? To lift up ailing economy. Remember the saying “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar?” The money used to buy the jewelries belong to the Filipino people. I hope the money will be used for the good of our country and people.
