OWWA’ s scholarship grant still open
The Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Office VI (OWWA ROVI) is still open to qualified beneficiary/dependent of Ovearseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who wish to enroll in any four to five-year baccalaureate course.
Every year, a total of one hundred scholars are selected through a national competitive examination jointly conducted by OWWA and its partner institution under this program.
Those who are qualified to avail of the grant are: son/daughter of active OFW member or brother/sister of single active OFW member; not more than 21 years of age; in good health; and pass the qualifying examination (DOST National Examination) and the College Admission Test of the school where the applicant intends to enroll.
The following are the requirements to be submitted to the nearest OWWA regional office: accomplished application forms (2 sets); 2 copies of 1 x 1 ID pictures; proof of relationship to member/copy of birth certificate of applicant (and member if related as brother or sister) duly certified by the Local Civil Registrar; Form 137 of Transcript of records; and proof of OWWA membership such as e-card, Official Receipt of OWWA contribution, Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), Seamen’s Identification and Record Book (SIRB), Employment Contract duly processed by the POEA or Certification from OWWA Membership Registry Division.
Scholars are entitled to a financial assistance amounting to P30,000 per semester. They are also free to choose their desired field of study as long as the program is offered by a CHED accredited college or university. The scholarship shall continue until completion of the course regardless of the status of OFW membership provided the Scholarship Agreement is complied with.
The scholar must not be a recipient of other scholarship grants since this is only provided once. Applications shall be accepted only until October 28, 2005. Examination will be on December 4, 2005.
The educational benefit is one of the support programs being offered by OWWA to OFW members and their dependents under the education for all program thrust of the PGMA government. (PIA 6)
