Drilon backed by local partymates over destabilization yarn
By Erly C. Garcia
“Unfounded, irresponsible and bordering on hallucinatory statements” was how the Iloilo Chapter of the Liberal Party (LP) headed by former City Councilor Vicente Gengos Jr. describe the linking of former president Corazon C. Aquino and Senate President Franklin M. Drilon to destabilization moves against the Arroyo administration.
Gengos in a press statement declared that the LP in the city of Iloilo “stands four-square in support of Aquino and Drilon.”
Drilon is the president of the LP.
He said: “Given the present circumstances, the government should focus on answering charges relative to its legitimacy, moral ascendancy and capacity to govern, rather than resort to such derogatory remarks, inconsistent with the banner of 'the rule of law' it supposedly waves and espouses.”
“The Filipino people cannot be a party to this crazy idea,” the press statement ended.
Ilonggo Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago revealed last week the supposed plan to abduct the President and remove her from office after the impeachment proceedings against the Chief Executive in the House of Representatives was dismissed.
Santiago allegedly got the information from a close relative of Drilon.
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Sr., another Ilonggo, backed the revelations made by Santiago. He said, he had received text messages indicating that Aquino and Drilon were part of the plot to oust the President by any means necessary, including killing her.
He also mentioned the names of former Ambassador Roy Señeres and actress Susan Roces as among those who plan to establish a revolutionary government if and when the plan to oust Mrs. Arroyo succeeds.
Drilon earlier dismissed allegations that he is behind the plot to abduct President Arroyo to establish a revolutionary government.
He said in his 18 years of public service, he had never advocated for extra-constitutional means of changing any president.
