Residents seek total revamp of Molo PNP
By Maricar M. Calubiran
In the wake of the controversy haunting the Molo police precinct, concerned citizens in Molo district is asking Mayor Jerry Treñas to effect a total revamp of policemen in the said police station.
In a letter furnished to The News Today, the concerned residents asked Treñas to replace the cops presently assigned in Molo police precinct with new police graduates.
The complainants alleged that there are cops acting as protectors of illegal drugs, video karera and illegal number games in the area.
However, the letter dated October 3,2005 did not contain the names of cops engaged in alleged illegal activities in the area.
The concerned residents asserted that the deployment of new cops would clear all doubts about the credibility of the Molo PNP. This will also restore the trust and confidence of the people towards the men in uniform, they claimed.
Controversy sparked in Molo police precinct after SPO3 Rex Jabian, SPO1 Rodendache Ganzon and PO3 Dexter Sevilla were relieved from their post and transferred to the Regional Headquarters Service Group in Camp Delgado.
It was then that rumors of Insp. Frankie Lugo, chief of Molo PNP, receiving drug money spread like wildfire.
In an earlier interview, Lugo, who assumed his post only last August, denied the report and even challenged his detractors to present witnesses to prove their allegations. While, ICPO chief Sr. Supt. Norlito Bautista also asked the media to identify the police officials who are on the take with the drug lords.
Treñas, when asked of his comment regarding the said letter, vowed to confer the matter with Bautista.
Although unsigned, Treñas wants to take up the letter with Bautista as he is concerned with the ongoing conflict in Molo PNP.
The chief executive was in Canada on official business when the city police was rocked with reports of police officials allegedly on the payroll of drug lords. The report even worsened when an alleged vigilante group in the city claimed to execute local drug lords.
The mayor stressed that they have to do something before the situation gets worse.
“We don’t have to allow the situation to get worse. To make our community safe, we have to work all together,” said Treñas.
