It's Jonathan’s word against his brother's
Rearrested drug pusher Jonathan Nava and his brother Voodoo have conflicting statements over the former's escape from the Iloilo Doctor's Hospital last November 2004.
While Jonathan denied reports that a cop helped him to escape, his brother Voodoo claimed that he was allowed to escape by the police.
Both, Jonathan and Voodoo are now detained at the Iloilo District Jail in Brgy. Ungka, Jaro for drug charges.
Jonathan was rearrested in Metro Manila last October 13, 2005 by the joint elements of the Regional Intelligence Office, PACER-Western Visayas and Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Police Regional Office 6.
Voodoo, on the other hand, is also detained at the Iloilo District Jail after he was caught in a buy bust operation last February 11, 2005 in Molo. He is facing drug charges before Judge Victor Gelvezon of the Branch 36 of the Iloilo Regional Trial Court.
Jonathan claimed that it was only by chance that he was able to escape while being treated in the hospital since his handcuff was defective.
Jonathan added his police escort PO2 Arman Pinuela was asleep when he ran away.
Voodoo’s letter addressed to PNP regional director Chief Supt. Doroteo Reyes II, however, contradicted his brother's claim.
He claimed that a cop, who's identity is being withheld by The News Today for security reasons, helped his brother escape because “he (the cop) and his cohorts” are afraid that his brother would squeal everything he knows in the drug trade.
The letter was dated September 28, 2005. It was sent to the regional director weeks before Jonathan was arrested in Metro Manila.
Voodoo, in his letter alleged that a cop served as one of his brother’s protectors. He said the cop frequents the residence of his brother in Infante, Molo. He added the cop would also ask for protection money and sometimes get illegal drugs for his own personal consumption.
Voodoo further claimed, the said cop would tip off his brother whenever he is a target of a drug operation.
