Bazaar of inmates' products to highlight Correctional Consciousness Week
Products of inmates, probationeers, parolees and pardonees from their livelihood projects such as handicrafts, native products and others will be put on display in a bazaar to be held at the lobby of the Chief Justice Ramon Q. Avancena Hall of Justice in Bonifacio Drive of this city on October 24. The bazaar activity is a kick off for the 11th National Correctional Consciousness Week (NCCW) celebration in the region.
Slated every last week of October as decreed by former President Fidel Ramos through Proclamation No. 551 this year, the celebration falls from October 24 to 30. This aims to continuously create awareness for public participation in the re-socialization and reintegration of prisoners, probationers, and parolees into society as productive and law-abiding citizens.
Aside from the bazaar, on October 25, each of the 24 field offices of the Parole and Probation Administration 6 that spearheads the celebration will conduct related activities for clients and members. These activities will either be a tree planting, Alay Linis or Family Day.
This will be followed the next day by an Ugnayan-Talakayan at the Iloilo City District Jail in Ungka, Jaro and at the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) at Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City. During the dialogue representatives of the agencies that comprised the criminal justice system (CJS) will present its related programs, projects, activities and services. The day's activities will be capped by a Thanksgiving Mass at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Iloilo Hall of Justice Chapel.
A bloodletting activity is scheduled on October 27. The parolees, probationeers and pardonees are encouraged to participate in this activity.
October 30 is also the 18th Annual Celebration of the Prison Awareness Sunday by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care.
