Concom to hold consultations
The members of the Consultative Commission will hold a consultative dialogue with multi-sectoral groups in Iloilo City, on Oct. 26, 2005 at the Amigo Terrace Hotel, 9:00 a.m. This is part of the nationwide consultation for the revision of the l987 Constitution, spearheaded by the members of the Consultative Commission.
About 16 members of the group will be coming to Iloilo to dialogue with representatives of local government units, religious groups, youth, farmers/fisherfolks, senior citizens, members of the academe, civil society, non-government and people’s organizations. Workshops, discussions and presentations on the structure and form of government, political party and electoral reforms will be undertaken during the activity.
The Consultations are expected to be lively non-partisan debates on the form of Constitution that people want to have. It will enable the people to give their inputs, feedbacks, suggestions and recommendations on what they think would best fit the Philippines in terms of structure and form of government.
Based on the consultations conducted, the CONCOM will make the necessary recommendations to the President, who will then refer it to Congress.
It will be recalled that the Consultative Commission (CONCOM) was created by virtue of Executive Order 453, mandated to conduct consultations and studies and propose amendments and revisions to the l987 Constituion, principally, the proposals to shift from the Presidential-unitary system to a parliamentary-federal sstem of government, to refocus economic policies in the Constitution to match the country’s vision for global competitiveness and to review economic policies which tend to hinder the country’s global competitivess and aversely affect the people’s witness.
The CONCOM is composed of about 50 members representing the national, regional and sectoral constituencies who were recently appointed by the President
Other areas where the consultations will be conducted are Cebu, Zamboanga, Puerto Princesa, Davao, Tacloban and Cagayan de Oro.
