Make a stand
I believe it is important for a person to make a stand for what he/she believes in. A lot may not agree but every person has different opinions on what they stand and don’t stand for. I have my own “stand for” and “don’t stand for” opinions. You are all welcome to agree or disagree.
I stand for patience even though I have little or almost lacking in it. Patience for every little thing that I do is a struggle. However, I stand for it because the reward is great. Whenever I am criticized or questioned on how I do things, I pray for patience that somehow I am able to do it right the next time.
I stand for happiness even if I know it is a state of mind. To be happy is a choice. Despite the problems I face every waking hour, I choose to be happy by simply not worrying about it. I struggle to do this of course but a cup of coffee after waking up makes my day and since it makes my day, a smile follows. Then the rest of the day I am in a happy mood. Smile, it’s not so bad.
I stand for peace when others create noises or prefer to be noisy. These days when we have political and economic unrest, people prefer to hit the streets and be noisy about it by rallying their cause. Whatever it is like how they hate the present president in her stubbornness to remain in power in spite of her tainted credibility. That is their choice. However, I prefer to peacefully pray for the present state of the nation. I believe prayers can do miracles when one or more will seriously and religiously consider it.
I stand for hope when most people lose it because of too may trials and struggles in their life. Hope is the only thing, I believe, that will hold us to that dream of a better life, a better future. To have hope that someday all the trials and struggles will end one way or the other and a light at the end of the tunnel will shine brightly is to give life a second chance.
I stand for change. I believe that people change. It depends I guess how one changes. For the better or for the worst. I prefer that other people tell me I am changing for the better rather than I didn’t change at all. Change is good because it means progress; it means development; it means something is happening; it means the future!
I stand for love when enough hatred is harbored in the heart for a long time. Love comes with compassion, understanding and acceptance. Love encompasses any feeling of anger and emotional hurts. Love conquers all as the saying goes. However, if one continues to nurture any negative feeling, love seems to diminish and eventually disappears. I believe in loving even the most unlovable being, and that is, one’s enemy. As God’s greatest commandment, “love thy neighbor” means, He wants us to show love especially to those difficult to love.
I stand for true friendship. I have great moments with my real friends and will always cherish them. A true friendship should be tested. It should go through the thick and thin test. It should have surpassed a lot of quarrels and disagreements. It should have gone through the test of time and distance. A true friendship is honest and love-centered. One should know a true friendship or just a fair-weather friendship. It helps though, not to expect so much from friends so as not to be disillusioned by them. However, there is nothing wrong with giving more to the friendship and receiving a little less.
I stand for great victories in the name of Jesus. When a room full of atheists or non-believers of the word of God is converted to a room full of believers it is victory for Jesus. When one is decreased from his arrogant ways and increased to being humble and obedient, it is a victory for Jesus. When I struggle and try every day to change my being critical of other people and persevere to continue loving the most unlovable it is victory for Jesus.
If I stand for all the above, there are also stuff I don’t stand for. I don’t stand for hypocrites because all they do is gossip a lot. I don’t stand for arrogance for it is only for self-centered people. I don’t stand for dishonesty because I believe in telling the truth as always is the best way to do it no matter how painful it may seem. I don’t stand for too much power because it corrupts the mind and the person. Lastly, I don’t stand for having a lot of money for money is the root of all evils.
“It’s important the people should know what you stand for. It’s equally important that they know what you won’t stand for.”
