23rd SEA Games torch here in the city
Even though Iloilo City is not among the lucky places in the country to host some events in the upcoming 23rd Southeast Asian Games, at least the Ilonggos could see the torch used in the international games.
Rommel Castro of the Iloilo City Sports Council said the torch arrived Tuesday afternoon at the Iloilo port. The torch will then be brought to the Iloilo Sports Complex for the opening of the PRISAA games.
The symbolic torch will stay in the city until Wednesday morning. A short program will be held at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand to honor the arrival of the torch. The same torch was used for the past several years during the SEA games.
Castro said after the program runners from the participating countries will have a run from the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand until Tagbac, Jaro. Among the participating countries are Philippines, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia. From Tagbac, the torch will then be brought to the province of Aklan.
He said it is a very rare opportunity for the Ilonggos to see the symbolic torch used during the SEA games. The people could wait along the road for them to see it.
Last Tuesday night, there was a film showing regarding different sports events at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, he said.
