Raid yields hundreds of fake CDs, DVDs
Iloilo City -- Continued campaign against the proliferation of pirated movies in CDs and DVDs yielded significant results anew as 'pirates' were 'attacked' and their pirated wares were confiscated in a series of raids.
Usual target was the Marymart Mall in the Iloilo City proper, known to many regular customers as the 'pirates' alley.' The raid was conducted by officials of the Optical Media Board alongside agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and operatives of the city police.
Sacks of undetermined number of pirated movies, mostly foreign, were hauled off the top floor of said mall late Wednesday afternoon. The entire wing of the 'Pirates' Alley' was cleaned up by the raiding team as dealers and the sales clerks watched nearby.
No one from the group claimed ownership of the confiscated goods, not a surprise really and the 'Standard Operating Procedure (S.O.P.)' even during such police and government operations.
It was only about a month ago when same place was raided by same team with just about the same results. Yet give it three to four days maximum, it will be business as usual in the area, assured one dealer.
On top of the pirated movies confiscated were music CDs and pornographic films, most were even mass-produced in the alley itself.
To date, no charges were filed by the Optical Media Board.
