Anteco assures stable power supply for Antique
San Jose, Antique -- Power supply in the province has been stable so far, bared Ludovico Lim, General Manager of Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco) Inc. The cooperative handles power distribution in the 16 towns, including the island municipality of Caluya, as the other towns of Pandan and Libertad are under Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco).
Lim explained that since Christmas and the New Year, no load shedding has been implemented, an indication that adequate power supply has been provided in the coverage area that helped ensure a meaningful Christmas and the New Year celebrations.
The Anteco manager further explained that the Cooperative remains committed to the Barangay Electrification Program under the Ten-Point Agenda of the government. To help spur economic progress in the countryside, generate employment and livelihood opportunities, Anteco pursues the electrification project in the three barangays of Guiamon, Jinalinan and Bongbongan in the municipality of Laua-an.
The project is still part of the package under the Korean Electrification Program (Kepco). These barangays are off-grid, or very far from the main power lines of the National Power Corporation (NPC) and Kepco will provide diesel-powered generators in order to energize the three barangays. Completion of the project is scheduled this January 2006.
The island barangay of Sibay, in Caluya is likewise a recipient of the electrification project. It is scheduled to be completed within the first quarter of 2006.
Lim further bared that Anteco's accomplishment in providing electricity to the barangays is 89 percent. The remaining 11 percent, awaits 2006 subsidy allocation to reach the 100 percent of the 537 potential barangays, Lim concluded. (PIA)
