Capitol announces qualifying exam for "Iskolar Sang Iloilo"
The Iloilo Provincial Government (IPG) through the Provincial Planning and Development Office announces the qualifying exam for the "Iskolar Sang Iloilo" Program.
The exam will be administered on February 18 and 19, 2006 at 5th Floor, Iloilo Provincial Capitol Bldg., Iloilo City.
Only those applicants who belong to families with Annual Gross Income of not more than P120,000 per annum; belong to the upper 10% of the graduating class; bona fide residents of the Province of Iloilo; and of good moral character are qualified to take the exam.
Qualified applicants must submit the following documents: Certification from the Barangay Captain that she/he is a bona fide resident of the barangay, belongs to the disadvantaged sector of the society and of good moral character; Family Income Tax Return (CY 2005) indicating that the family Annual Gross Income is P120,000 and below or a Certification of Tax Exemption from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR); Certification as of the latest grading period from the school principla that the applicant belonged to the upper 10% of the graduating class; School ID (Xerox); information sheet duly signed by the applicant and their parents or guardian; and a 1x1 photo.
This scholarship program was approved by the IPG under Ordinance No. 20, Series of 1996 on April 29, 1996.
The program primarily aims to financially assist those individuals/families residing in the Province of Iloilo and belonging to the economically disadvantaged but deserving sector of our society.
Qualified applicants will have the opportunity to enroll in a four-year baccalaureate degree in any State Colleges and Universities in the Province and City of Iloilo only.
Courses offered are those which are supportive of the development thrusts of the province preferably in Engineering, Agriculture, Fishery, Forestry, Environment Preservation and Management, Cooperative Development, Education and Social Sciences, Information and Technology, Accounting and Management and other related fields.
Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr., chair of the Management Board of the "Iskolar Sang Iloilo" Program and also a product of public education, has coordinated with the local chief executives in the province of Iloilo to assist the IPG in disseminating information to their constituents regarding this program.
Already on its 10th year of implementation, the governor said the province will accept additional 25 applicants for school year 2006-2007.
A total of 83 scholars already graduated from since the implementation of the program in 1996.
Currently, 114 students/scholars are enrolled in various colleges and state universities in Iloilo.
Meanwhile, the deadline for submission of application will be on February 15, 2006. Duly accomplished application should be submitted to The Secretariat/Technical Working Group, "Iskolar Sang Iloilo" Program, Provincial Planning and Development Office, 3rd Floor Iloilo Provincial Capitol Bldg., Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City.
An examination fee of P200.00 will be collected during the examination day. (Capitol News)
