Calinog's Hirinugyaw-Sugidanonay Festival '06 a success
Tribu Dila-dila
Tribu Dila-Dila of the Alcarde Gustilo Memorial National High School in Brgy. Alibunan, Calinog, Iloilo made it two years in a row when it was declared champion of the tribal competitions of the recently concluded Hirinugyaw-Sugidanonay Festival of the municipality of Calinog Sunday night during the awarding ceremonies.

Tribu Dila-Dila, who was also last year's champion, took the P10,000 cash prize as well as a beautiful trophy for topping four other tribes in the said competitions. To top it all, the group also pocketed P100,000 worth of projects which was earlier promised by Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas, who attended the celebration together with his wife, Myrna Causing-Tupas.

Aside from winning the top prize, Tribu Dila-Dila also went away with the Best in Choreography and Best in Costume special awards, which carries with it an additional P1,000 cash prize each.
Tribu Bulalakaw of the Calinog National Comprehensive High School in Brgy. Simsiman, meanwhile, copped first runner-up honors and went home with the corresponding P8,000 cash prize. The school also got P80,000 worth of projects from the governor.

In addition, Tribu Bulalakaw romped away with three special awards: Best in Performance, Best in Music, and Best in Discipline, earning for the group another P3,000.
Copping second runner-up honors, on the other hand, is Tribu Banaag of the Don Esteban Javellana Memorial National High School in Brgy. Guiso. It bagged the P6,000 cash prize on top of the P70,000 worth of projects pledged by Gov. Tupas.

Consolation prizes of P2,000 cash and P50,000 worth of projects each were given to Tribu Maragtas of the Carvasana National High School in Brgy. Carvasana and Tribu Badlanon of the Badlan National High School in Brgy. Badlan.
It was learned from Calinog Vice-Mayor Rene Hurtada that Tribu Dila-Dila earned the nod of six out of the nine judges commissioned for the tribal competitions, making it a majority choice to win top honors.
In the torch procession contest, declared winner was Tribu Dila-Dila, followed by Tribu Banaag and Tribu Bulalakaw.
'Best and biggest ever'

Meanwhile, in an interview, Calinog Mayor Alex Centena expressed gratitude to all those who contributed in making this year's Hirinugyaw-Sugidanonay Festival "the best and the biggest ever."

"I also would like to thank Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas, Sr. for adding excitement to our festival by adding more than half-a-million pesos worth of projects to our prizes. Madamu gid nga salamat sa tanan. Mabuhay kita tanan!" added the youthful town chief executive.
Earlier, Gov. Tupas called Calinog's Hirinugyaw Festival "the best and most fun festival here in Iloilo, second only to Iloilo City's Dinagyang Festival."
