San Jose, Antique -- The Binirayan Festival is not all merry-making. It is also time for Antiqueños to honor those who have done well not only to make the province proud, but also to improve the quality of lives of the Antiqueños.
The Binirayan Foundation, Inc. is now accepting nominations for Bugal kang Antique Awards, the highest award of recognition given to an Antiqueño whose creativity, selfless work, and dedication have given hope and made life meaningful for the Antiqueño society.
The Bugal kang Antique Awards recognizes outstanding Antiqueños in five categories: 1) Government Service, 2) Community Leadership, 3) Entrepreneurship and Technology, 4) Journalism, Literature, Creative Communications, Sports and the Arts, and 5) Public Service. The award is open to all Antiqueños either by consanguinity or affinity, residing in or out of the province, regardless of race, creed, and sex, or to Filipinos who, by choice, decide to reside, work, and live in Antique for at least five years.
Nominations must be endorsed to the screening committee by past Bugal kang Antique awardees, heads of academic and government institutions in the province, leaders in private organizations or institutions, including business organizations, and leaders of Antiqueño associations outside the province.
Aside from the Bugal kang Antique awards, the organizers also award special citations like Datu Lubay Award for Antiqueño artists, the Datu Sumakwel Award for lifetime achievement, and the Evelio B. Javier Leadership Award for the Youth.
Nominations must be received by the Binirayan Foundation on or before March 15. The awards night will be held on the last day of the festival, April 29 at the EBJ Freedom Park. For details call 036-5407343.
