Grendzenski named Miss Paraw Regatta
Display of beautifully-designed sailboats, fishing tournaments, oyster feasts, beach volleyball competitions and lots of exciting activities comprise this year's celebration of the 34th Paraw Regatta, an event which Ilonggos look forward to every year. But what is an event without a beauty pageant?
On February 16, 2006 at exactly 4:00 p.m., the entertainment center of SM City Iloilo was filled with interested and spirited audience from all over and outside Iloilo City to witness twelve candidates from different schools vye for the title of this year's Miss Paraw Regatta.
Over-all Coordinator Ronnie Bolivar stated that the pageant aims to showcase the beauty of an Ilongga and the titlist 's responsibility is to bring pride to every Ilonggo. The contest commenced with a welcome address from the executive assistant to the mayor, Mr. Francis Cruz. Hosts Diego Mambo and Joan of GMA's local Sunday show Bongga presented the candidates. They all looked captivating in their sarongs during a sultry production number with the Tribal Quest Dancers. The contestants flaunted their curves as they dominated the center stage in their swimsuits and evening gowns.
After two hours of deliberation by judges Rowena Diaz, Atty. Ronnie Manikan, Jonathan Cabellon, Mae Panez and Bombet Marin, they made their final pick of this year's winner.
Rizlley Ann Grendzenski of Iloilo Doctor's College was crowned Miss Paraw Regatta 2006 . The 18-year old candidate triumphed over eleven other contenders and bagged the best in evening gown and interview awards. John B Lacson Colleges Foundation's (JBLCF) pride, Cherry Mae Car won first runner-up and the best in swimsuit award. The 19-year-old Zenia Villarin of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas placed third, followed by Maria Carla Monica Baviera in fourth place and finally Irish Milan of JBLCF completed the top five.
All candidates received certificates of recognition from Mr. Nielex Tupas and Mr. Manuel Villa Jr.
Another young lady is yet to embody the real Ilongga character, one who possesses not only beauty and grace but intelligence and talent as well.
