Capiz town wages drive vs. rabies
Roxas City -- A week-long dog rabies vaccination is now undertaken by the municipal government of Panitan, Capiz.
According to Dr. Christy Nelly Advincula, Municipal Health Officer of said town, the activity is part of their prevention programs for rabies cases among their town residents and to further enhance the program on responsible dog ownership.
Advincula said that this vaccination of all dogs in the 26 barangays of Panitan came after a series of advocacy campaigns were conducted in the communities in said area explaining the adverse effects of rabies to humans as well as the role of dog owners in this health program.
She said that under this program, which is a joint effort of the Municipal Health Office and the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist of said town, dog owners are being charged P20.00 for each dog vaccinated by the team.
Advincula explained that they are charging the said vaccination fee to augment the price of the vaccines being purchased by the municipal government to cover all dogs in the locality.
Since January this year, they were able to register two rabies cases with more than a hundred cases of dog bites.
Barangay officials of said town, on the other hand, expressed full support to this health effort of their municipality for the protection of the lives of their constituents.
Earlier, the province was able to pass and approve an ordinance regulating responsible dog ownership, including the implementation of preventive measures such as massive dog vaccination and advocacy activities down to the barangay level.
