Coup or coop
What's the buzz, tell me what is happening? (A famous line from the Jesus Christ Superstar Movie). However that is exactly what I felt about the weekend coup (they said?). Oh well, not that I am now passive about what is happening around the nation but just got busy with serving the Lord for the Marriage Encounter Weekend that started last Friday till Sunday and was oblivious of the goings on in Manila. I just didn't have time to watch television; I don't listen to radio either. All I got was snippets of what happened from friends who got their own info from text.
What really happened? I couldn't care less not because I became politically passive about things but because I find this all out effort to topple the present government futile, useless anxiety and definitely, just a waste of time! I am not saying this because I am a Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo fan, absolutely not! It is so because at this point, I don't know if I am the only one thinking this way; I just believe that the present government, President Arroyo, the opposition, the balimbings, the sipsips, the they-don't-know-who-to-side-on people or whoever sits as the leaders of the State does not matter anymore. It is us, as Filipinos who should do something about it by being law abiding citizens, by continuing to be good followers not protesters or fault finders, by quietly doing our part as Christians (this is no brainer, I guess)... no amount of rallies, or any government protest will make the present government change their minds into resigning or leaving their posts. Moreover, with what is happening it is just causing government unrest and people get demoralized instead of being inspired.
To top it all, we are suffering from a bad economy that these people caused in the first place! I don't believe in street protests and protesting something they think they believe in, however, I am not an idiot not to see what really are the motives of these people. They are the ones whom I think are idiots who do not know that people are now wiser and more practical which is more than I can speak for these selfish, ego-centered, narcissist at some point, greedy politicians, need I say more? Why don't they just work on some cause-effective measures like perhaps, solving the waste disposal problem, helping the calamity-stricken province, Leyte for instance, (that is where their money, blood money if I may say should go); getting rid of the never ending mushrooming of these unlicensed, not enclosed karaoke bars (here I go again, huh?), they are everywhere for crying out loud! Why don't these politicians or so-called protesters-for-a- good-cause be in their office at least eight hours a day? It seems that most often than not, they are not around when you need them most! How about stopping to be corrupt politicians? Helloooo...am I dreaming or what?
Over the weekend while a so-called coup attempt was prospering, BLD members including me and my husband were tied up serving the Lord and offering prayers for the nation. It is not an unusual thing for us to do because it is part of our service to the community and to God. I have always believed in the power of prayer and to quote our BLD Global Spiritual Director and CBCP President, Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, he simply said, "What we can do at the moment is to pray for peace and sobriety in the face of these developments that is going on in Manila". He also asked the people to be calm and to be sober and not simply react to what is going on (The News Today Feb 27/06 Issue). Oh well, of course there were irresponsible newspapers who said otherwise but hey, that is why they are irresponsible and nobody reads them!
When I see people out in the streets protesting and clamoring for justice and integrity, I would wonder whatever for? What justice and integrity? The nation has suffered a lot in the past and even nowadays. The dollar for a while was doing well because something is being done about it. Why can't we see that instead? Why is it easy for us to see the faults of other people rather than see what good was done? I may be asking a lot of questions and honestly, I may be guilty also for simply just being passive about it... or sick and tired of this goings on is more like it. But wouldn't you?
Anyway, I agree with what the good Monsignor said about being calm and sober about it. That we should pray for peace instead of reacting to what is happening. A coup de etat is not a solution for it causes economic and government unrest. And to those who are causing this so-called coup, be calm and sober. Do not be cooped up with your own selfish and moronic idea of providing the nation peace and prosperity. What peace? Duh! A coup is not by far peaceful. Prosperity? Helloooo... poverty is more like it! With these developments, I promise to do my part as a citizen of this nation. I may be just a fly in the forest but I would like to do my part, have yet to figure out how, but hey, initiative is there and attitude follows so I guess I am in the right track...how about you?
