Bacolod PNP adopts "BACOLOD" for peace drive
Bacolod City -- Col. Harold Tuzon revealed that for the first two months of the year, the city of Bacolod is relatively peaceful with no incidence of high profile crimes.
The total volume of crime for the month of February is 77, of which 22 are index crimes and 52 are non-index crimes. Index crimes are those in violation of revised penal code, which can cause damaged to property and persons while non-index crimes are violations of special laws.
Compared to January, their office has suffered a set back in crime prevention with the increase in index crimes from 36 in January to 52 in February and non-index crimes from 21 to 22. Despite the increase, the crime solution efficiency of these crimes increases to 2 percent in February from 92 percent in January to 94 percent.
The launching of the Bacolod City Police Office's 7-priority concern for 2006 with the acronym BACOLOD helps curb the crime committed in the city.
For its Bantay Terrorismo Campaign, the BCPO included bomb identification in the trainings of security guards in the city as well as advocacy on bomb threats and identification among members of the BCPO Press Corps. In order to intensify its anti-terrorism campaign, BCPO's requested for the allocation of funds for the training and equipment of SWAT and EOD teams which will conduct intensified intelligence monitoring of terrorists and terroristic activities in the city.
On Anit-Illegal drugs, Col. Harold Tuzon of the BCPO revealed that the prices of shabu in the market has gone up from P3,200 to P5,000 due to scarcity of supply. A shift to ketamine and vallum is noted among users especially students. There are 18 operations conducted and 21 persons were arrested and cases were filed against them. Five of the 21 are pushers while the rest are users.
Barangay 2 is considered as the drug basket not just of the city but of the whole province. The BCPO recommended during the recent Peace and Order Council Meeting the establishment of an outpost in the barangay for 24-hour saturation of the people coming in and out of the barangay and additional personnel are requested to man the outpost.
"Control sang crimen sa Kalye" concern, the BCPO was able to neutralize criminal gangs in the city. The police were able to recover motor vehicles, cell phones, and cable wires even television sets.
Obserbahan ang trapiko. (Observe traffic rules). Traffic as being one of the major problems of the city, 564 motor vehicles were apprehended and 128 were impounded in violation of the No Plate No Travel Policy.
Serving as good examples, the other concern of BCPO is Lider ang Pulis sa Katawhay kag Kalinong (Police are leaders of peace and order).
The dispatching of the 10 Terranos in strategic and high crime incident areas around the city contributed to the growing success of the On Time and Pulis concern of the BCPO. The 5- minute reaction time of the police to respond to an incident is cut down to 2-5 minutes with the help of the Terranos.
For the last concern Dungganon ang mga Pulis, the bible study every Sunday on police stations are still regularly being conducted.
Col. Harold Tuzon recommended the allocation of 5percent of the city's 30 percent calamity fund in order to sustain the momentum set by the initial launching of the 7-priority concern of the Bacolod City Police Office.
