Four families to get relocation site from city
Iloilo City -- Only four of the 26 affected families in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao have applied for a relocation site before the office of the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao).
This was learned from a representative of the Icupao who went to the demolition site yesterday.
Nevertheless, Mayor Jerry Treñas assured that those who have applied and qualified would be accommodated in the city's relocation site.
Treñas said he has already instructed the Icupao to check on how many will be affected by the demolition and how many are qualified. The city could only extend help to those who own houses and not owners of commercial establishments. He said the demolition is a result of court proceedings and the affected families have to follow the order of the court.
The residents have occupied the property owned by the Banco de Oro Universal Bank. The property used to be owned by spouses Jeffrey Ganzon and Emily June Ganzon.
The demolition order was implemented yesterday by the City Sheriff after Judge Jose Azarraga denied the motion for Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) filed by Atty. Daniel Dinopol and Atty. Ronnie Delicana. The two lawyers represented the affected residents.
Meanwhile, an employee of the ICUPAO who went to Bolilao yesterday (Tuesday) said there were already residents who sought their help last week. However, only four have processed and qualified to avail of the relocation site. They will relocated to the city's relocation site in Barangay Sooc, Mandurriao.
Some of the residents were surprised upon knowing that they could avail relocation site from the city. They thought cannot avail of relocation site from the city government.
