4 ICPO police units post zero accomplishment
Four police units under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) posted zero accomplishment relative to the campaign against illegal drugs. While, Task Force Bakhaw registered the highest number of apprehension on illegal drugs compared to eight other police units.
In report provided by ICPO Director Senior Supt. Norlito Bautista to Mayor Jerry Treñas, police precinct 1 (City Proper); police precinct 3 (Jaro); police precinct 5 (Mandurriao) and police precinct 6 (Arevalo) did not register any illegal drugs apprehension from January to February 2006.
Police precinct 1 is under Insp. Dande Deocampo, police precinct 3 is led by Supt. Kashmir Disomangcop, S/Insp. Kim Legada is the precinct commander of police precinct 5 and Insp. Hari Decena heads police precinct 6.
It was not immediately known if police precinct 1 and police precinct 5 did not launch drug operations because of the existence of task forces in its vicinity--Task Force Bakhaw, Task Force Water Front and Task Force Angel.
In the same report, however, the Task Force Waterfront has no record of drug apprehension and Task Force Angel only arrested one person.
In the City Proper, Barangays Zamorra-Melliza, Veterans Village, Sto. Rosario, Tanza-Esperanza and Malipayon are considered as drug affected barangays.
In Jaro district, Barangays Bito-on and Simon Ledesma are listed as among the drug-affected barangays from among the 42 barangays in Jaro.
Out of the 18 barangays in Mandurriao, only Barangay Bakhaw is listed as drug-affected barangay.
While, in Arevalo, Barangays Yulo, Sta. Filomena and Sto. Niño Sur are considered as drug affected barangays.
In the same report, Task Force Bakhaw arrested 13 persons relative to prohibited drugs. The report covers the period from January to February 2006.
The same accomplishment report did not contain the list of the suspects or their classifications. It was not known whether those arrested are merely street level pushers or drug lords. Nevertheless, the Task Force Bakhaw led by C/Insp. Julio Gustilo recovered 9.209 grams of suspected shabu and has filed 13 cases against drug suspects in court.
Task Force Bakhaw was purposely created to curb the illegal drug problems in Bakhaw. Bakhaw is the lone barangay in the district of Mandurriao considered by police as drug affected barangay.
The Iloilo City Mobile Group under Supt. Ruperto Floro Jr. comes second with seven arrested persons. They have confiscated 0.485 of shabu and filed seven cases against the suspects.
The police precinct 4 followed third with the highest number of arrest. The police precinct 4 under S/ Insp. Federico Silvestre, chief of police and his deputy Insp. Frankie Lugo arrested six persons and filed six cases. They have confiscated 0.483 grams of marijuana and 0.186 grams of shabu.
The Task Force Angel and police precinct 2 (Lapaz) ranks fourth with one arrested person each. The Task Force Angel led by Chief Insp. Jack Wanky only made a single arrest since it was created. They have recovered 1.862 grams of suspected shabu and filed one case. The Task Force Angel was purposely created to eliminate illegal drug problems affecting Barangays Tanza-Esperanza and Malipayon.
The police precinct 2 (La Paz) under S/Insp. Alejandro Apostol seized 125.006 grams of suspected shabu and filed one case. Barangay Rizal is considered as drug affected barangay in Lapaz district.
