DENR retrieves illegally cut trees
San Jose, Antique -- DENR Antique had successfully retrieved illegally cut natural grown trees at Sitio Venancio, Brgy. Aningalan, San Remigio, Antique last March 8-10, 2006 with a total volume of 21.23869 cu. meters.
It should be recalled that on January 6, 2005 a volume of 254.6565 with a stumpage value of P1,619,6l5.50 was seized and confiscated in favor of the government by a joint operatives of the DENR, Philippine Army and Philippine National Police of San Remigio. Due to lack of funds for hauling, the cut logs were left at the site where it was found but charges were filed against the five perpetrators in violation of Section 77, P.D. 705, as amended.
Fortunately through proper representation of CENRO Jesse Vego and support of PENRO Vicente Sardina, the municipa lity of San Remigio provided funds for hauling in the total amount of P50,000.00
The retrieval operation is a joint activity of the Provincial Multi-Sectoral Forest Protection Committee and the Peace and Order Council and the staff of the PENRO Antique and CENRO San Jose.
Tasking for the retrieval operation was also planned and implemented well. The securing of perimeter and the work force was assigned to the 31st Reconnaisance Company 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army, while the supervision and control of the operation was assigned to the DENR-PENRO and technical staff, the CENRO of Sa n Jose and its technical staff. The barangay folks of Sitios apong and Tigidan, Barangay Cabladan and barangay Tubudan, Nagbangi and Aningalan were tasked as haulers with compensation. The PNP Mobile Group escorted the transported lumber from the site to the PENRO office.
