DTI-Iloilo slates 1st OTOP Fair
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Iloilo in partnership with the Ilonggo Producers Association (IPA) and the Iloilo Small and Medium Enterprise Development Foundation, Inc. is organizing the One Town One Product (OTOP) Fair 2006 on April 3-9, 2006 at the SM City Activity Center, Iloilo City. This event will give an opportunity for selected municipalities in the Province of Iloilo to launch and showcase their priority products that they want to be known for. OTOP is the priority program of the current administration intended to create employment and promote entrepreneurship.
Of the 43 municipalities that were invited, eighteen (18) have confirmed their participation to the said fair. The products to be showcased are: fresh and dried pineapple - Passi City; fresh and dried mango - Igbaras; high value crops - Alimodian; banana (lakatan) - Lambunao; rice wine - Pototan; steamed blue crabs - Banate; bandi - San Joaquin; banana chips - Tigbauan; fish noodles - Barotac Viejo; pottery - San Miguel; handwoven products - Oton and Miag-ao; ginger brew - Badiangan; abacacraft - Janiuay; deboned bangus - Dumangas; bamboo & wood furniture and furnishings - Maasin, Ajuy and New Lucena.
The OTOP Fair 2006 will formally open on April 3 at 3:00 pm with Mayor Raul C. Tupas, President of the League of Municipalities in Iloilo as the guest of honor. Local Chief Executives of the participating exhibitors and the member-agencies of the Iloilo SMED Foundation, Inc. are also invited. The exhibit is open to the public 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
This fair is the first to be conducted in the Province of Iloilo and is intended to be a regular annual event aimed at promoting the priority products of the municipalities in Iloilo.
