Sangguniang Bayan member and event manager Roberto Calaor III of Leon town informed The News Today through text yesterday that the 45-year-old 'Master of Pain' had to give up the bid to land in the Guinness Book of World Records for 24 hours non-stop street sweeping around 1 a.m. yesterday due to fatigue and dehydration.
"He stopped after 16 hours and 37 minutes due to fatigue and dehydration," Calaor said.
Caigoy was reportedly brought to the Aleosan District Hospital for immediate medical attention. The feat was supposedly for the benefit of the district hospital in San Miguel town.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Iloilo, Caigoy said he had miscalculated the actual time in which temperature would be at its hottest.
He said, he expected the temperature to be at its peak between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. so he had massive intakes of electrolytes during said period. The hottest temperature however occurred between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Caigoy said, although he did not reach 24 hours he would still submit the documentation of his feat to Guiness as he was setting a record.
Nevertheless, Calaor hinted that Caigoy might give it another try.
"He has a record to break since he is the author of the attempt that failed," Calaor said.
All in all, Caigoy was about eight kilometers short of the projected 26 kilometers of highways and major streets of the towns of Leon, Alimodian and San Miguel.
According to Calaor, Caigoy stopped at Barangay Igtambo in San Miguel, about 18 kilometers into the attempt.
Caigoy started his attempt at about 7:25 am Monday at the Leon town plaza.
The amount of money raised which is for the benefit of the Aleosan District Hospital was not yet determined at press time.
